"The Color Purple" film-Discuss the roles of women as portrayed in the movie. (Provide examples on how they were treated)..

What can I see from this story is that women in this film are portrayed as a slave. This shows through the character of Celie where she was being forced by her husband to do all the households and can’t go anywhere without his permission. She also needs to take care of her children. Celie also has to listen to all that was been said and told by her husband and if she ignored it, she will be beaten or punished by his husband, Albert.

Besides that, women also portrayed as someone that are weak, has no right to voice out their thoughts and defend their rights, especially in the public. This show throughout the character of Sofia where she was been imprison because of she want to defend her rights and good name as a black women to the white people. She also was treated badly during she was in prison until she has been leave, she still be slave to white people. It is not fair to Sofia.

Other than that, in this film, women also portrayed as the symbol of sex. This shows through the character Celie’s stepfather where her father raped her many times until she got two children. Other than that, it also shows throughout the character Albert where although he hate Celie, but he still want to do sex with her to fulfill his desire. As a conclusion, woman nowadays should be independent and not just depend on men. They also can survive on their own although without men in their life.

"The Color Purple" film-Describe the changes that Celie and Shug go through (Provide examples from the scene)..

I have watched the movie, “The Color Purple” by Steven Spielberg. It is really an interesting movie and I do really enjoy myself watching the movie.

The film starts by introducing about the life of a poor African American girl, Celie, whose was being abused since she is young. By the time she is fourteen, she has already had two children by her father, (which is supposed to be her stepfather). He takes them away from her at childbirth and forces Celie to marry a local widower whom she calls "Mister”, but his name is Albert Johnson. Mister, who likes Celie's sister, Nettie, treats Celie like a slave, ask and forced her clean up his household and take care of his children.

Then, the jazz singer Shug Avery, for whom Mister has admired for many years, comes to live with him and Celie. Finally they become close friends and Shug helps Celie begin to see her appeal as a human being. They also became friend because of the nice and good treatment that was showed by Celie towards Shug.

After befriend with Celie, Shug, which at first is someone that felt her life is useless and always give up, get the courage to face with her father and finally she did it. Shug and her father already accept each other and their relationship became close again. The film ends when Nettie and Celie's children, Adam and Olivia, are reunited with Celie at last. Both Celie and Shug live happily with their own life together with their family.

Compare the story: “Tragedy of My third Eye”, by Suchen Christine Lim with news about child abuse from the newspaper..

There are some similarities and differences between “Tragedy of My Third Eye” story and article about child abuse case that I found entitled “Juvenile Killers Deserve Harsh Punishment”. I have read the story Tragedy of My Third Eye, written by Suchen Christine Lim. The story is interesting. I do really like and enjoy myself reading the story.

It is about a girl named Ping. She is a kind of girl that can be said as a pity or sympathy young girl because of she always was being bullied and discriminates by the people around her like her schoolmates, teacher and also by the women that she called as her mother. While the article that I read was about a sixteen- year-old, Lai Ying Xin was abducted and murdered. Before that, the victim was kidnapping and the suspects are worse than animals. So, there are some similarities that we can find are both of them were tell about child abuse.

So, from the both story, what we can found is that the second story is sadder and more inhumanity compared to the first story, “Tragedy of My Third Eye”, by Suchen Christine Lim. When I read the news, it really makes me sad and crying because of all the cruelty done towards the girl until her death. In my opinion, their family should take care of their child and make sure them in a good condition. We also as the people should be more concern and be alert with our surroundings, so that there is no other child or kids that are going to be the next victim for abusing case.

How to overcome child abuse..

So, how to come this child abuse problem? There are also many ways we can take to overcome this matter. For instance, parents should have loving aspect in their family. They also need take a good care of their children although they were very busy parents.

Then, government also needs to take an action to those who make abuses to the children. The child criminal must accept punishment to their attitude towards children. Besides that, people need to have civic consciousness. If every person has this criteria, I will guarantee that child abuse will not happen again. Love children like we love our self.

The factors that lead child abuse..

Nowadays, there are lots of news about child abuse. Everywhere we go, the child abuse’s stories are the hottest issue. Why these child abuses happen? There are many reasons why these things happen. First of all, busy parents. A mother or a father was busy with their work. When they came home, they were tired and sometimes, they will hurt their children to release their tension. Then, adopted child or illegal children.

The parents think they can do anything to the children because they not their real children. Although they are children, but they still have feeling and want to be secure in all time. Other than that, people want put a revenge child’s family. So that, the easiest way to do that by doing child abuse. Normally, they will kidnap the child and do sexual harassment to the child. After that, they will kill the child without think as a human anymore.

Victoria and Her Kimono....

I just had done read short story entitled ‘Victoria and Her Kimono’ written by M. Shanmughalingam. This is quite interesting story because the settings take place on the British – Japan era.

I am not going to tell briefly about the synopsis of this story but my focus is to tell about the language that the writer use in this story. I think this story is quite easy to understand because the writer not using the high lexis words. The writer also tries to elaborate more about the term that he uses.

Other than that, the writer also adds their culture style of language. For example, the writer is an Indian, so he adds the simple Indian words in this story. So that, the readers will easy to understand and it make the story more interesting because of many different style of language.

Poligamy..???

Polygamy is quite sensitive issue among the Malaysian especially Malays. What is polygamy? Polygamy means the custom of having more than one wife at the same time in societies where this is legal.

Polygamy is can be allow to the people who are really able to responsible towards their wives. Islam also allowed to their followers to practice polygamy as long as the men know their responsibility and know how to be fair to their wives.

But, polygamy is totally wrong and not been allowed if the men take advantages to the polygamy practices. For example, the man married with the woman just because he fell in love with the woman even though he knows his wife is a perfect wife.

Other than that, he also not being fair to their first wife and disregard their family basic needs. So, from my opinion, polygamy is a good thing to practice if the men want to help the woman and if they able to responsible towards their wives.

However, if the men want to marry with another girl, he needs to get permission from their wife. And the men should know that women didn’t like to share their lovely husband…

Malaysian English Writer...

Today, there are many Malaysian English writer in Malaysia. They like mushrooms grow after the rain. According to history, Malaysian English writer was exist after World War II and when British come to Malaya. Now, there are many new generation of Malaysian English writer in Malaysia shows their creative works. For examples, Che’ Husna Azhari, K.S Maniam and etc.

They are very talented and most of them not specific in literature but some of them from other course such as engineering, architecture and etc. Malaysian English writer usually use a simple and easy style of language. They do not use high lexis words and sometimes they add in their writing with Malay’s words.

So that, the readers will easy to understand their works.
Then, the Malaysian English writers also tend to use social themes in their writing. So that, the readers especially Malays, Chinese and Indians people are easily accept their works. Lastly, I hope there are lots of people will be Malaysian English writer. Perhaps, our creative work’s field is more happening. The writers from other countries also will respect more to our Malaysian English writer.

Prediction of ending in Mala's Story...

If I am the writer of this story, I will create an interesting ending to this story. Mala does not a bad luck girl anymore and every time she back to her hometown, her family will welcome their daughter and her husband.

Mala’s neighbors also happy if they come back to the village. Then, Mala’s life also definitely changes. After she was married with Sanker, her life becomes happier. She works as a secretary at Sanker’s office. Sanker’s business also become successful and he also become success businessmen.

After that, they went to a new house which is more huge and comfortable. Other than that, Sanker buy a new car to his wife and they live happily accompanied by their children. They have three children which are two sons and a daughter. Mala’s parents also apologize to their daughter because had treated Mala unfairly before this. Lastly, all of them live happily ever after.

Mala..by K.S Maniam

I think Mala did not love Sanker at the first time they met. The same thing was happened to Sanker too. Mala is a very typical Indian’s girl that always follows their parent’s rules.

Mala and Sanker were married because Mala have no choice. Although Mala have no choice, but he taught Sanker will give her a good life. Sanker also did not love Mala at the first time they met but he wants to help Mala.

He was pity at a village girl who has a bad luck.
After they were married, they slowly become love each other. Mala loves Sanker and the same thing goes to Sanker. Although Mala was just a village girl, but she is a quick leaner person and want to learn a new thing.

After she was taught by Lucy and her husband itself, she becomes more trendy and updated. She also becomes a good worker and a nice wife. Then, Mala and Sanker live happily and their loves still grow up in their heart forever.

Hungry Ghost by Hwee Hwee Tan

Question no.1
What was the narrator searching for?
The narrator is searching for the life after death. He wants to know the life after he died and what agony he will receive.

Question no.2
In your perceptions, why does the grandfather “…wanted me to relieve him…”?
In my perceptions, the grandfather wanted the narrator to relieve him because he doesn’t want to go to the hell. His grandfather knows that the agony in the hell is horrible and he doesn’t want to face or go through all the punishment.

Question no.3
What do ‘offering food’, ‘hugging grave’, and ‘burning money’ symbolize?
‘Offering food ‘symbolize that the narrator believe that his grandfather is still alive and he want to feed his grandfather with delicious food.
‘Hugging grave’ symbolize as the narrator love and respect towards his grandfather.
Then, the last one is ‘burning money’. It symbolizes as to give money to his grandfather to buy new clothes, a car and a condominium in the hell.

The Interview by Gopal Baratham..

Question no. 1
According to Mason, ‘Deprivation is largely an attitude of mind’. Discuss this quote by Mason and describe what deprives you.
From my opinion, deprivation is largely an attitude of mind means someone without or not having the normal benefits of adequate food, housing, health care and etc. If someone takes something away from somebody, so it prevents somebody from enjoying their life. The same thing happened to Mason when his food, clothes, freedom and etc was taken away from him.

I think I am the lucky person because there is not too much deprives me. But for example, when I’m in my collage, I’m missing a little bit of my freedom because I need to follow the rules that have stated.

Question no.2
What ‘necessary’ for Mason’s life at that time and what is necessary for you to have in life?
The ‘necessary’ for Mason’s life at that time are he assume a certain amount of food and drink, a way of dress, a way of life and etc where we called it as lifestyle nowadays.

The necessary for me to have in life is like other person necessary too such as food, clothes, housing, health care, freedom, and etc. we need freedom because it is important nowadays. When we live in democratic country like Malaysia, we have our freedom in term of clothing, speak out and etc. So that, we can built a peaceful country and Malaysia can stand in the eyes of the world. Then, the basic necessary like food, housing and cloth are important too because to make sure that we can live in a better way.

The Happy Girl by KS Maniam..

Last week, i had done read a short story entitled 'The Happy Girl" written by KS Maniam. It is actually a young adult fiction book. Besides that, the style of language that the writer usewas very easy to understand.

After i read the whole book, i found that it was very interesting story. It ias about a girl name's Angie and she is the only child in her family. Her parents was a working person. So that, Angie always leaved by its alone.

Actually, she is a happy girl and always go for a movie and do activities with her bestfriend, Siew Kim. Unfortunately, Angie's study was not very good. Her mother was very stressed about Angie's performance and sometimes refused to see Angie's face because she always dissapointed her.

One day, Angie meet her mother and tell about the true colour of life and then her mother realised that she cannot forced her daughter. Lastly, they become a happy family and Angie also become a happy girl like before.
I don't know why the character in this story is very near to me but what i know is, this story give me a good moral lesson.

LIFE...

Life must be strong,

Like a coral in the crystal water,

Although disaster will come, it still there,

Steady like a Great Wall of China,

Never fell down to the earth,

No matter what will happen,

One fine day,

The sun will bright our day.....

Bugis

I have done reading Bugis by Alfian Sa’at. This story was took place at Bugis which is somewhere at Singapore. The place’s name Bugis was popular among transvestites and people to hang out. The characters in this story is the narrator,Salmah, Sazalie and many more. The writer develop each character with their own style and make this story was really interesting.

But, at the end of this story, the narrator pulls Salmah’s tudung. My prediction on what will happen after the narrator pulls Salmah’s tudung is Salmah was very shocked and she crying without stop. The narrator didn’t care what will happen to her friend as long as she satisfied of herself. While Salmah turn to become cruel and didn’t wear tudung anymore. She comfort with her new style.
For her, tragedy when the narrator pulls her tudung make she never trust anyone although her best friend. Then, Sazalie also was broke up with Salmah because he thinks that Salmah was fake. He also didn’t think that he can get along with women like Salmah anymore. Lastly, they were separate and did not meet anymore.
see u soon...........=)
